Elevating Email Marketing with Human Design: A Conversation with Alexa McAfee

Highlighting Alexa McAfee, founder of a unique email marketing and copywriting business that takes a personalized approach using Human Design. Alexa shares her journey, insights, and the powerful ways she helps entrepreneurs align their marketing strategies with their authentic selves.

Q: What inspired you to start your business, and what makes your approach unique?

Alexa: My inspiration came from realizing that most marketing strategies out there focus on a one-size-fits-all approach. But that never resonated with me. I discovered Human Design and saw how it could be a game changer in business. I knew that if I could craft email marketing strategies based on someone’s unique Human Design, they’d feel more aligned with their messaging and overall approach.

I use Human Design to guide not only my clients' marketing strategies but also how I show up as their biggest supporter. It’s all about understanding the nuances—when to show up, what to say, and how to structure the flow of your offers. Most people don’t even realize that by following their own intuition, they can be much more successful. My role is to help them do just that.

Q: What does success mean to you, and how has this definition evolved over time?

Alexa: Success used to mean following the traditional career path—climbing the corporate ladder and hitting certain milestones. But when I transitioned to entrepreneurship, that definition shifted. Now, success means living life on my own terms. I want my work to feel easy, fun, and aligned with who I am. If I’m the "sparkliest" version of myself and enjoying the process, I know I’m successful.

Q: Who is your ideal client, and how do you help them achieve their goals?

Alexa: My ideal client is someone who’s open to trying new things and wants to lead with authenticity. They’re entrepreneurs who are tired of following cookie-cutter advice and are ready to embrace a more intuitive way of doing business. I help them design email marketing strategies that feel true to who they are. By incorporating their Human Design into the process, I show them how to structure their offers, when and how to communicate with their audience, and how to trust their instincts rather than relying on what everyone else says they “should” do.

Q: How has being part of the Ventura County Business Women (VCBW) community impacted your journey?

Alexa: The VCBW community has been such a huge support for me. When I made the switch from corporate to entrepreneurship, I didn’t realize how much I missed being in a community of like-minded people. Small talk at Trader Joe’s just wasn’t enough! The in-person Coffee & Connections events have been a highlight for me each month. I appreciate the real human connection and how this community celebrates all of us, both professionally and personally.

Q: What are the core values that guide your personal and professional decisions?

Alexa: My core values are simple: life should be easy, there’s always enough time, and I’m at my best when I’m having fun. These values drive how I approach both my business and my life. I believe that when you’re aligned with who you are and living authentically, success follows naturally. That’s the energy I bring to every client interaction—helping them step into their most empowered, true-to-themselves version.

Q: What advice would you give to women who aspire to lead and make an impact in their fields?

Alexa: My biggest piece of advice is to trust yourself. There’s so much noise out there about what you “should” be doing. But you have an inner guidance system that knows the right path for you, even if it looks different from everyone else’s. Lean into that. Don’t be afraid to be different, and let your unique strengths shine.

Q: What do you do to stay grounded and focused while pursuing big professional goals?

Alexa: I take walks without headphones! I know it sounds simple, but I love hearing the birds chirp. There’s actually science behind it—birds only chirp when there’s no danger, so hearing them puts your nervous system into "safe mode." It’s a way for me to clear my mind, find calm, and get clarity when I’m feeling overwhelmed. I always come back from these walks feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world.

Q: What are your aspirations for the next phase of your life and career?

Alexa: Looking ahead, I want to continue expanding my business in a way that feels aligned with my values. I’d love to keep helping entrepreneurs tap into their own unique magic and break free from the pressures of doing things the way everyone else says they should. Personally, I want to maintain that balance of fun and fulfillment in both my work and my life. That’s where I thrive, and that’s what I want for others as well.
