Q: What is the inspiration behind your business journey?
Danielle: My business truly began with my late grandmother, who believed that all plants have medicinal properties. She showed me at a young age how to harness the natural healing power of plants, and that stayed with me. When she passed in 2011, I felt an even stronger need to carry on her legacy. Years later, in 2016, I developed severe eczema during pregnancy. I didn’t feel comfortable using anything but natural products on my skin, especially once my son was born. I turned to my grandmother’s recipe books and created a salve that eventually became our best-seller. Today, that same product has helped thousands worldwide.
Q: Tell us about your personal journey and how it has shaped who you are today.
Danielle: About nine years ago, I was at rock bottom. I was facing homelessness, a divorce, and was a single mom with an infant. I knew I was the only one who could pull us out of that situation and create a better future. That experience shaped me into who I am, not just as a business owner but as a person. I learned to accept genuine help, find love and understanding, and look for miracles even in the hardest times. I had to choose between two paths: the life I was “supposed” to live and the one I decided to create. Choosing to rebuild myself taught me resilience and humility, and I carry that into my work every day.
Q: What makes Honey Shine Calendula unique?
Danielle: The core of my business is the calendula flower itself. While some skincare products might include calendula as a minor ingredient, Honey Shine Calendula is centered entirely on this amazing plant. Calendula has healing and soothing properties that are great for the skin, and it's even edible! I’ve grown calendula in my garden for over eight years, and it’s my mission to raise awareness about its benefits. My goal is not just to sell products but to open up a conversation about skin health and healing naturally. Sharing my grandmother’s legacy and helping others find natural solutions for their skin is what truly sets us apart.
